Even more impressive, with more depth and richness on the palate but with the same aromatic fireworks, the 2007 Domaine Gauby Côtes du Roussillon Villages La Muntada is a blend of 45% Grenache, 45% very old vine Carignan, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% Syrah that is aged for 30 months in a combination of cask and barrel. As with the Vieilles Vignes, this shows the essence of wild herbs, licorice, dried flowers, and licorice on the nose. Perfectly ripe red and black fruits come through more with air and this has a dense, layered core of fruit that just gets better and better over the evening, as well as on the second day. Full bodied and powerful on the palate, with ripe, sweet fruit, amazing freshness, perfect balance, and a decadent, yet light texture, this spectacular wine finishes with juicy fruit, awesome length, and serious structure.
