Les Cras (3.45ha of premier cru) lies between the village and Les Fuées which adjoins Bonnes Mares. It is a very stony site, almost solid limestone and is typically one of Barthod’s finest wines, year in year out showing great minerality and structure. The 2004 below is a cracker with great intensity and length.
Allen Meadows: [Burghound.com] 90-93 points “This is frequently if not always the best wine chez Barthod and it is the most complete effort in 2004 with ripe, pretty and ultra elegant red pinot fruit that possesses so much minerality that it initially seemed like red Chablis. The flavors are sweet, pure and rectilinear yet there is good mid-palate fat that enables this to avoid being hard and charmless. I particularly like the linear, pure and fine finish and while this is understated and exceptionally long, the balance is absolutely impeccable and blessed with the best phenolic ripeness of any wine in the range. One to buy by the case if you love classically styled and ultra pure Chambolle, assuming that you can find it of course! 2012+”
